Department of Logic and Cognitive Science has been established at the Institute of Psychology in 2005.
Our main areas of research cover the logic of questions, epistemic logic and proof theory. We are working on formal modelling of human cognitive activities, in particular on problem-solving, scientific explanation, and abduction.
Our Department is responsible for the management of the M.A. programme in Cognitive Science, run (for the first time in Poland) from the academic year 2005-2006 on.
DLCS is a part of the scientific research network on Logical and Methodological Analysis of Scientific Reasoning Processes.
Research projects:
- Erotetic logic in the modeling of ultimate and distributed question processing. Theoretical foundations and applications. 2012-2017
- Manual Skills, Handedness and the Organization of Language in the Brain: Interrelations between the Planning of Tool Use, Gestures and Concepts. 2012-2017
- Modeling of abductive reasoning. 2014-2019
- Extremal axioms: logical, mathematical and cognitive aspects. 2016-2018
- Distributive deductive systems for classical and non-classical logics. Proof theory supported with computational methods
